Previous Fresh Starts
I obviously stare down the barrel every January and wonder where I’m going to be getting the bread from this coming year. I panic and then start trying a few different things. In January 2017 with 3 gigs in the diary I decided to release a solo album thinking that if I could shift a thousand I’d be sorted. Or even a hundred. To be clear from the outset I didn’t but all sorts of interesting things blossomed from making that decision so it was a good one. It’s still worth a listen.
I still like the sound of it. I think I’ve gotten a bit tidier and more succinct in my work since then but you’ve got to start somewhere right? The first season of the Simpsons doesn’t look quite right now but they had to get cracking and put something out there too.
Another January launch happened in 2012 when we took TOKOLOSH to Marc Riley’s 6music show for the first time. I can’t remember an awful lot but we definitely played the Hollow.
I’d become a father a few weeks previously so was definitely shitting it. Throwing TOKOLOSH out there wasn’t a plan for survival as such but I think I can see the urgency in getting cracking with it. It took another two years for us to get round to releasing the album so that sense of urgency was clearly a limited resource.
Let’s see if anything that I’m pottering about with this January makes it’s way out into the world. Or turns into something completely unexpected.
