My good friend Britt Ustler shared this photo the other day, not the clearest image you’ll ever see but the only lasting memento I have of the tour we did with Micah P Hinson in the spring of 2004.
That album is immense... But it would be nothing without the Earlies. I'm sorry you got shafted but I'm also glad that this record of your shafting exists. I saw you on that tour at, I think, the band on the wall. Does that sound right? I'm going to listen to the album right ruddy now while I wash up...
Well. That was a very enjoyable jaunt down my memory lane. I agree on all your highlights, Christian. May I add to your list Nicky's flute on Close Your Eyes, and Semay's cello about half way through and when your piano part kicks in on Don't You. I have a very vivid memory of listening to that on headphones walking across Centenary Square in Bradford in the sunshine and when that came in I was lifted off my feet.
And how ironic/prophetic to hear Micah's refrain on Caught in Between...
For me, this is a third Earlies album with guest vocalist. Whatever happened to that guy anyway...?
